Shanni's family want someone to take responsibility for her attack
The family of a 12-year-old girl who was slashed across the face in class by another pupil are considering suing the school and Sheffield City Council.

Shanni Naylor needed 30 stitches in her face after the attack during a lesson at Myrtle Springs School in Sheffield.

The Naylors' solicitor said they were considering legal action alleging the council had failed in its duty of care.

But a spokesman for the council said it had not been contacted by the Naylors'

solicitor about any potential case.

"We have not had any contact yet from their solicitor so we have not entered into any legal discussions," he said.

Stitches removed

Medical and psychological reports are being prepared to assess how Shanni has been affected by the incident.

She was attacked during an English lesson with what is believed to have been a blade from a pencil sharpener.

It is thought she had intervened to stop her assailant bullying another pupil the day before.

A 12-year-old girl has been arrested in connection with the attack and released on police bail until December.

Shanni, who spent three days in hospital following the attack, had her stitches removed on Tuesday.
