A village came to a standstill to pay tribute to a 12-year-old boy who died when he was impaled on railings while collecting conkers.
Lewis Read fell from a tree onto the fence at a cricket ground close to his home in Woodsetts near Rotherham.
St George's Church was packed for his funeral on Tuesday with mourners overflowing into the churchyard.
The vicar, Father Adrian Fereday, said Lewis's death last Wednesday had led to "an outpouring of love".
Both Woodsetts Junior & Infant School and Dinnington Comprehensive School, where Lewis was a pupil, closed early to allow pupils to attend.
His family said they wanted the occasion to be a celebration of his life and a tribute to him. They have set up a memorial fund in his name.
Lewis lived in Worksop Road with his parents Phil and Angela, his three brothers Daniel, 19, Lee, 17, and Harrison, 18, and his sister Anneka, 19.
