Railings death boy charity plea
Lewis John Read
Lewis Read died after surgery
The parents of a boy fatally impaled on railings want donations in his name to be made to Thornberry animal sanctuary or the Yorkshire Air ambulance.

Lewis Read, 12, of Rotherham, was collecting conkers when he fell on to the railings at Woodsetts.

He was cut free by firefighters and taken to hospital by air ambulance, but died after surgery at Sheffield's Northern General Hospital on Wednesday.

Lewis' funeral will be held on Tuesday afternoon.

His family described him as "caring and compassionate".

An inquest into his death has been opened and adjourned.

The Dinnington Comprehensive School pupil had been with friends when he fell on to the fence at a cricket ground in Gildlingwells Road.

South Yorkshire Police have begun an inquiry into the accident.
