Impaled schoolboy inquest opens
Lewis John Read
Lewis Read was 'caring and compassionate', his family said
An inquest into the death of a schoolboy who was impaled on railings has been opened and adjourned.

Lewis John Read, 12, of Rotherham, died after surgery at Sheffield's Northern General Hospital on Wednesday night. He had been cut free by firefighters.

The Dinnington Comprehensive School pupil fell onto the fence at a cricket ground in Gildlingwells Road, Woodsetts as he collected conkers with friends.

South Yorkshire Police have begun an inquiry into the accident.

Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced by the family, who issued a statement on Thursday describing Lewis as a "caring and compassionate" boy.
