Woman is badly beaten by mugger
A woman is recovering after being beaten with a wooden baton by a mugger who was trying to snatch her handbag in Sheffield on Monday night.

The woman was walking along Manchester Road towards Crosspool just before 9pm when she was attacked.

South Yorkshire Police say the man repeatedly hit the victim with what appeared to be a 15-inch wooden baton as he tried to pull the handbag clear.

She was treated for severe bruising at the city's Northern General Hospital.
