Service for rollercoaster victim
Family and friends of a woman who died after an accident at a theme park gathering for a service of remembrance.

Gemma Savage, 20, from Wath upon Dearne, South Yorkshire, died after two cars collided on a rollercoaster at Lightwater Valley in June 2001.

The service, which took place outside the gates of the park near Ripon, North Yorkshire, was not be attended by her parents.

They said the event would be too upsetting, especially on Father's Day.

Ms Savage, a student at the University of Durham, was airlifted to Leeds Royal Infirmary after the crash on the Treetop Twister ride but died a day later.

She had planned to collect her end of year examination results on the day she died.

The Treetop Twister ride opened at the theme park in May, 2001.

It was one of two new rides to arrive at the 175-acre park that year.
