Workmen spark bomb alert
Army bomb disposal experts were called to the scene
Workmen in Sheffield sparked a security alert when they uncovered an unexploded bomb.

The device was discovered just 10 metres from the main Sheffield Road in the Tinsley area of the city on Monday morning.

Police cordoned off surrounding roads and warned members of the public to stay away from the area.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "It was discovered by workmen who uncovered it while digging on waste ground opposite a Mercedes Benz garage."

Described as cylindrical, 2ft long and eight inches in diameter, it was later confirmed as an artillery shell.

An army bomb disposal unit was called to the scene and removed the device, allowing police to re-open roads in the area.
