Plans for a £5.5m road and river crossing in a Somerset town have been given the go-ahead.
Taunton's Third Way will provide a new north to south route with a bridge over the River Tone, near Goodland Gardens.
Another bridge will also be built over Mill stream with pedestrian and cycle facilities.
Two sets of traffic lights will be installed and improvements will be made to the existing Bridge Street and Wood Street junction.
A Somerset County Council spokesman said the project was a key element to delivering the Project Taunton vision.
"The funding being received is very good news and means that we can finally give the go-ahead to start work."
Morrison Construction has been given the contract to carry out the work, which will include linking Wellington Road to Bridge Street.
Greenbrook Terrace car park will be closed within the next few weeks to allow the work to commence.
Work could start as early as April and would be completed by autumn 2011.
