The charity raises funds to provide palliative care for terminal ill people

A charity is appealing for donations of old furniture from people replacing three piece suites or dining sets for Christmas.

Weston Hospicecare raises funds to provides free palliative care to people with terminal illnesses.

The charity will collect unwanted items, free of charge, to sell in its 12 shops throughout North Somerset.

A spokesman said sofa sales were 60% up on last year and it was hoped they could benefit from cast offs.

Retail controller Peter Boyer said: "There is clearly a rise in sales at high street furniture stores, which means people are getting rid of their sofas and other furniture.

"We want to remind the community we have been serving for the past two decades, that they can put that old sofa to good use by giving us a call.

"Any drop-off in furniture donations means the charity could lose out on tens of thousands of pounds."
