Exhausted horse rescued from mud

Firefighters have rescued a horse which had become trapped in a muddy ditch in Clutton in Somerset.

Crews were called to Willow Farm, Marsh Lane, on Friday afternoon after reports the animal was in distress.

An Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said the animal had become exhausted after trying to escape.

"Crews managed to place straps around the animal and using the farmer's tractor the horse was lifted out under supervision from a vet," she said.

"Once released the horse was then seen running around the field none the worse for his ordeal," she added.
