Foundation laid for new hospital

Building work is set to get under way on a new £17.5m community hospital at South Petherton in Somerset.

The hospital will house a specialist stroke rehabilitation ward as well as other therapy services, a mobility centre and outpatients' clinics.

The facility is being built on the site of the current South Petherton community hospital in Hospital Lane.

The new hospital is scheduled to open by the middle of 2011. A ceremony will held later to lay a foundation stone.
