Transport provision probed by MPs

Haulage companies, councillors and campaigners are in Taunton to give evidence to a group of MPs about the transport network in the South West.

The meeting will look at the area's transport provision and how well this connects with the rest of the UK.

Members of the South West Select Committee will also examine transport in more remote parts of the region.

They aim to ensure the area gets a safe, affordable and environmentally-friendly transport policy.

Committee chair Alison Seabeck MP said: "The size of the South West means that it can sometimes be difficult for people to travel to the rest of the country.

"The session in Taunton will be looking at how well the transport system serves people in rural areas or who want to travel outside the region."
