Beach rescue for tourists in 4x4

Three holidaymakers had to be rescued from their Land Rover after it got stuck almost half a mile from the shore in Somerset.

The tourists, from Birmingham, were spotted on mudflats at Brean by a concerned beach warden who called the Burnham Area Rescue Boat (BARB).

Crew members used the charity's tractor to haul the Land Rover up the beach before the evening high tide.

The vehicle's owners made a donation to BARB to cover its costs.

"The owners had been testing out the vehicle in the mud and seemed to be completely oblivious to the danger they were putting themselves in," said BARB operations manager Steve Perks.
