Bryan Chalker had been searching for the spring for months

An amateur historian has uncovered an ancient cold spring in Bath. Councillor Bryan Chalker has been pondering over maps and photographs of the Larkhall area of the city for several months. "It's a little bit of jigsaw falling into place. It's wonderful to be able to say to the people of Larkhall, 'yes you did have your own spa'," he said. The spring was originally discovered in 1832 but had since been lost, Mr Chalker added. In that year an entrepreneur started boring in the area for fresh water, he said. "He struck what they call chalybeate which, if you check in the dictionary, is a water impregnated with mineral salts."
