Graffiti leads to land girl party

Graffiti on a barn wall has led to five World War II land girls being reunited after 60 years.

Greta Williams, Margaret Gillard, Audrey Owen, Hilda Coles and Jacqueline Ferris all saw a recent TV appeal by Exmoor farmer Roger Webber.

Mr Webber had noticed their names scrawled on a barn wall at his farm and decided to get in touch with them.

Sixty years on, the group said they were fascinated to see the graffiti was still visible on the wall.

From his farm at Seaworthy, near Minehead, Mr Webber said: "I think it's absolutely fabulous that we found them and found them so quickly.

"It's wonderful to hear them chatting and remembering those days during and at the end of the war."

Ms Owen added: "The work we did was hard because then it was all manual we didn't have any of these fancy combines or machines but we had a lot of fun."
