Early daffodils
Bulbs have been planted on all the town's roundabouts

The first of this year's daffodils in Somerset has bloomed earlier than expected.

An "Early Sensation" variety of the flower has sprung up on the Western Relief Road in Yeovil.

South Somerset District Council has planted 280,000 daffodils and a total of 1,500,000 bulbs across the district.

The first daffodil is thought to have appeared on 24 November. The Early Sensation variety more commonly flowers in December or January.

Lesley Jelleyman, of South Somerset District Council said, "The Streetscene Team has just finished planting the spring bedding at St John's Churchyard and on all our roundabouts, so we are in for a treat in the new year."
