Town gets £4m sport centre plan

Bridgwater YMCA has been awarded nearly £4m in a lottery grant to rebuild its sporting facilities.

A spokesman said the £3.92m would mean the Somerset town would be able to boast an exciting new place for youth and the community.

Demolition of the current site is to begin shortly with the new building due to open to the public in 18 months.

"It'll give us a great opportunity to have a sustainable resource for young people," the spokesman said.

Martin Hodgson, Chief Executive of Bridgwater YMCA, added: "Essentially it's going to be an entire new rebuild on site which will involve the demolition of our existing site.

"Then there's the rebuild which will contain a larger sports hall, meeting areas and more opportunities for youth work on a seven-days-a-week basis."
