A train carrying 16 passengers has hit a van on a level crossing in Somerset.

The accident happened at 0920 GMT when the South West Trains 0850 Bristol Temple Meads to Salisbury service was passing through the Freshford crossing.

A SWT spokeswoman said no passengers on the train or its driver were hurt and the van driver also escaped injury.

It received minor damage in the crash and will be fully inspected in Salisbury.
