Furniture firm in administration

A Somerset-based company making flat-pack furniture has gone into administration.

The Furniture Factory employs 300 people at its headquarters in Glastonbury and in Wiltshire, Cornwall and Teesside.

The firm also has a number of staff in warehouses throughout the UK.

David Crawshaw, from administrators KPMG, said the company had "encountered trading difficulties" and was looking to sell the business.

"Although the directors have tried to restructure the business to drive out costs, unfortunately they could not effect the change quickly enough in the current climate to save the business," he said.

"We are now reviewing the options and are seeking a buyer for the business as a going concern."

The company employs 30 staff at its headquarters and distribution centre in Glastonbury.

It has manufacturing facilities in three locations. One hundred and thirty work at Thornaby on Tees, Teesside. The site at Redruth, Cornwall employs 120 people and 20 work at Westbury, Wiltshire.

The business, which manufactures flat-pack furniture and kitchens for a number of high street retailers, had an annual turnover of £57m in 2007.
