Jobs may go in firm's re-shuffle

Up to 50 jobs could go at the Yeovil head offices of tools and hardware company Screwfix, as part of a major restructuring programme.

A spokesman said it was not due to the downturn in the economy and that the firm was performing well in difficult market conditions.

The employees holding the 50 posts affected will be given a chance to apply for existing vacancies first.

Screwfix employs 1,000 people in the town and a further 2,500 across the UK.

Human resources director Guy Eccles said: "Organisational changes are essential from time to time to ensure continued growth.

"As part of our commitment to the future, and to our employees here in Yeovil, we are looking at ways to strengthen our business.

"This restructure involves balancing our resource so that we can continue to deliver the best value and service to our customers."

The company's sales grew 20.4% to £251m and 37 new outlets were opened during the first half of the year.
