Week's rubbish displayed by city

Rubbish
The city has more than 80 bins

A week's worth of litter was put on display outside Bath Abbey to highlight how much rubbish is left by residents and visitors to the Georgian city.

The haul was sorted into piles - one representing rubbish correctly binned, one dumped in car parks, the third litter collected from the streets.

A council spokesman said there was no excuse for littering given the number of bins throughout the city.

"Every resident and visitor has a responsibility to use them," he added.

Nearly 30 tonnes was collected and displayed. Bath and North East Somerset (Banes) council hopes using the shock tactics will make people more responsible.
