Man arrested over cab hut arson

Burned out cab hut
A petrol canister was set alight and thrown in

A 19-year-old Bath man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a fire at a taxi cab hut.

Four staff escaped injury when a canister of petrol was deliberately set alight in the wooden office in South Parade in the city centre.

Fire crews were called on Saturday evening where they found the building well alight.

The arrested man was helping police with inquiries on Tuesday morning.

Det Sgt Neil Beament said: "We are following up a number of lines of inquiry and are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed an incident in Durley Park on Saturday afternoon.

"A taxi was involved in an altercation with a group of youths in Durley Park. This incident was not reported to police."

John Innerd, the owner of Abbey Taxis, told BBC News: "If there hadn't been another way out of this building out the back, the staff could've been killed."
