A meeting has been held to discuss reconstruction work of the pavilion on the Grand Pier, in Weston-super-Mare.

Representatives from the North Somerset Council, heritage, tourism and environment agencies attended the meeting.

North Somerset councillor, Elfan Ap Rees, said the meeting recognised the importance of the landmark to Weston.

Mr Ap Rees said there was a positive response and commitment to work together to reconstruct the pier.

He said a task force was being set up "to work with the pier owners to smooth the way for the design and reconstruction."

"We are also looking at new events and generally promoting the town and area, as well as submitting bids for funding to carry out further enhancements on the seafront area," he added.
