Man charged with memorial damage

A 16-year-old has been charged with causing criminal damage to a war memorial in Somerset.

A man climbed the Yeovil war memorial on 22 June and caused damage, estimated at thousands of pounds, to its stone pillars.

Mayor Wes Read said "The monument was put there to help us remember those who gave their lives in the war."

The 16-year-old male is due to appear before South Somerset Youth Court on 16 July.
