Police collision victim is named

A man who died after the car he was in collided with a marked police car on an emergency call has been named.

Christopher Mollan, 77, from Bramhall, Stockport, was driving a Nissan Primera on the A39 near the Cattcot junction in Somerset on Monday.

His wife Laurel, 73, who was a passenger in the car, remains in hospital with serious leg injuries. Two policemen suffered minor injuries.

Mr Mollan was a father-of-three children and six grandchildren.

The marked patrol car containing armed officers was travelling on the A39 to an incident with its blue lights on, police said.

The matter has now been voluntarily referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) for an investigation, the spokesman added.

Witnesses to the collision, which took place at 1030 BST on 9 June, are asked to contact police.
