Man helped from smoke-logged flat

An elderly man has been rescued from his smoke-filled flat in Somerset.

Emergency services were called to the property in Russett Road, Taunton on Sunday evening following reports of the incident.

Firefighters entered the property and found the man who was suffering from smoke inhalation.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue spokesman said the man was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
