Men are rescued from mudflats

The rescue
The men were embarrassed by the incident

Two men were rescued by coastguards after their car became trapped on mudflats in Somerset - the sixth incident in the area in a month.

Burnham-on-Sea coastguards were called to Brean after a Range Rover sank into mud 150m from the beach on Thursday.

The vehicle and its occupants were spotted by the resort's beach warden, who dialled 999.

Dave Welland, Burnham coastguard officer, said: "They were both more embarrassed than worried."

He added: "This incident serves as another reminder of the dangers of ignoring warning signs along our coastline."

This was the sixth incident in a month involving vehicles becoming trapped in mud along the coastline between Burnham and Brean.
