A man who was kicked and stamped on by a group of people as he challenged them for urinating against his car has been sent home from hospital to recover.

Plumber Gareth Avery, 48, from Weston-super-Mare, was returning from a pub during the early hours of Saturday when he came across the group.

After speaking to them, he was set upon by two men and a woman, police said.

He was left with a fractured jaw and cheekbone and cuts to his face and head.

The main suspect was described as white, about 6ft tall, in his early 20s, of skinny build and scruffy in appearance, who was seen to kick and stamp on the victim's head.

Another man, who was also reported to have kicked the victim in the head, was described as white, in his early 20s, with short dark hair and slightly shorter than the main suspect.

One of the women with the group was white, in her early 20s with long brown hair. She was wearing a white jacket.

Police have said that another man was leaning against a wall and appeared to be watching the incident, which took place in Severn Avenue.

Witnesses to the attack are being asked to come forward.
