A government decision to close two part-time Jobcentre Plus offices in Somerset has been criticised by the leader of the county council.
Facilities at Burnham-on-Sea and Chard are to go as part of a "modernisation" programme.
Jill Shortland said the decision "demonstrates a lack of understanding of the economic and social realities of life in Somerset".
During a consultation last year, the council voiced opposition to the plans.
Ms Shortland said the closures would result in difficulties for local people in the two affected areas who are seeking work.
She said: "It is misconceived financially - any savings must be offset against additional costs to the public purse and some of our most vulnerable members of society from lost employment opportunities."
