River trail's future under review
Funding to maintain a popular riverside trail in Somerset has ended and the future of the walk is now under council review.

South Somerset District Council is leading the £8,000 review of the 50-mile River Parrett Trail.

The walk runs from Chedington on the Dorset and Somerset border across the wetlands of the Somerset Levels and Moors.

It was launched in 1995 with a budget of more than £400,000.

Councillor Patrick Palmer said: "We are aiming to look at ways in which we can keep the trail going as it attracts visitors to the area and boosts the local economy and it is a good example of sustainable tourism in an environmentally sensitive area.

"We want to be pro-active and by getting together with others, we are doing so."
