Traders warned over advertising
Traders in Weston-super-Mare have been urged to watch where they place advertising-boards and goods on display to avoid the risk of accidents.

North Somerset Council said there should be enough room for disabled access around an obstruction.

Only one item is allowed and should give a minimum of 2m clear to the kerbside for people to pass safely.

Businesses were warned that action would be taken to remove any boards that failed to meet safety standards.

Councillor Elfan Ap Rees said: "Unfortunately a handful of traders have taken to blocking the pavement with 'A' boards and even goods for sale.

"This causes obstructions for wheelchair users, mothers with pushchairs and visually impaired people.

"We really want to encourage a lively street culture, but a few are spoiling it for the many and, despite being asked nicely, are still ignoring the advice."
