Election fraud claim investigated
Somerset police are investigating claims that signatures on a candidate's nomination form for the local elections in Mendip may have been falsified.

Officers visited Mendip District Council's offices in Shepton Mallet this week and removed the document.

A spokesman said the person concerned was trying to win a parish council seat and was continuing with the campaign.

If the allegations are proved correct, the individual could face charges under the election laws, the spokesman said.
