New figures show 98% of visitors to Musgrove Park's Accident and Emergency Department are seen within four hours.

The Department of Health said 12,000 people went to the A&E in Taunton between October and December 2006.

Of these, more than 3,000 needed to be admitted, an increase of more than 400 on the same period in 2005.

"To see, treat and either admit or discharge almost 99% of our patients within four hours is fantastic," said Consultant Paul Baines.

Musgrove Park Hospital Taunton is run by Taunton and Somerset NHS Trust.

Each year almost 40,000 patients are admitted as emergencies.
