The youngest councillor in the UK has been elected to serve on South Somerset District Council.
Mr Shortland hopes to project a positive image of Chard
Dan Shortland, 21, will now work for Holyrood residents in Chard.
Councillor Shortland's mother, Jill, is a former leader of the council while his father Gary was elected to Chard Town Council.
Mr Shortland, who was born in Yeovil, said he felt privileged to be made a councillor at such a young age and hopes he can "live up to the title."
Leader of the council Tim Carroll said: "This was a brilliant election success for such a young person.
"I hope his success will serve as an example to other young people to come forward and take a similar active role in their community."
Mr Shortland added: "I am undecided about where I see my future. It could either be in youth work or in politics, but I am definitely looking forward to promoting a positive image for the young people that I have grown up with in Chard."
