Student killed in gas holder fall
A student plunged 50ft to his death from a gas holder during a night out with friends.

James Fiddes, who was studying sports technology at the University of Bath, clambered up the frame, near Windsor Bridge in the city, early on Sunday.

But the 20-year-old Cambridge man was killed instantly when he fell from the structure on to the dome below.

Two of his friends who had also climbed the holder had to be helped down by firefighters after the accident.

A spokesman for the university said friends of Mr Fiddes were being offered assistance in dealing with his death.

He said: "The university was deeply saddened to hear the news of Mr Fiddes' death and wishes to express its sincere condolences to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed."

The death is not being treated as suspicious and the case has been passed to the coroner. An inquest was opened and adjourned on Wednesday.
