A horse rider suffered serious injuries when she was thrown from her animal on Berrow beach on Sunday afternoon.

The 29-year-old local woman was riding the young animal along the beach when it is believed it reared up and threw her onto the hard, wet sand.

She was taken by ambulance to Weston General hospital with suspected back and neck injuries.

The horse, from a local stable, was one of several animals being walked along the beach at the time.
