Boy dies in hit-and-run collision

A 16-year-old boy has died after a hit-and-run crash near Keynsham.

The youth was walking with a friend along the A39 between Farmborough and Marksbury on Saturday night when he was hit by a Ford Transit van.

Police say the van did not stop and drove away at high speed in the direction of Keynsham.

The boy, from Marksbury, was taken to the Royal United Hospital in Bath but died a short time later. Police have sealed off the area for examination.

The accident happened about 100 yards from Westway Garage, where forensic teams are concentrating their efforts.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the Transit van to contact them.
