College launches own record label
Michael Gillet holds the label's first CD
The label was set up by music teacher Michael Gillet
Glastonbury Festival founder Michael Eavis has given his backing to a record label founded by a sixth form college.

One of the first releases on the Studio 6 label features a band which played at the world-famous music festival at Worthy Farm last year.

Michael Eavis said it was "a real shame so few well-known bands come from Somerset" and he hoped Studio 6 would address that.

The label features new musical talent from students at Richard Huish College.

It aims to release records to help the teenagers' music reach a wider audience.

Student compositions

Studio 6 was set up by music technology teacher, Michael Gillett.

"Getting a recording and publishing deal is the aim of all aspiring young musicians," he said.

"Following our success at Glastonbury last year with Ryleys Second Skin, it became clear that we needed to take this step to provide the final chapter in the development of our young musicians."

The label has signed bands and acts who are all students studying for a vocational A Level in Popular Music.

Eleven five-track EP CD albums, all of which will be the students' own compositions are to be released on the new label.
