Two men have appeared in court charged with the manslaughter of an Oxford University student who died after taking part in a human catapult stunt.

Richard Wick, 32, of South Esplanade, Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, and David Aitkenhead, 45 of Coultings Villa, Fiddington near Bridgwater, appeared before Sedgemoor Magistrates' Court.

The pair, who spoke only to confirm their names, were released on bail to appear at Bristol Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on 29 July.

Kostadin Yankov, 19, died after taking part in a human catapult event at Middlemoor Water Park in Woolavington, near Bridgwater, on 24 November 2002.

The first year bio-chemistry student, a Bulgarian national, was airlifted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol, where he died the same evening.
