Coalition protest held over Oswestry store plans

Protest in Oswestry
Groups marched against store plans they say threaten independent traders

A march has been held in protest at plans to build a superstore in Shropshire that some traders say could adversely affect their business.

A coalition of four groups marched in Oswestry against the threat they said a big store posed to independent traders.

The superstore is part of wider plans to regenerate Oswestry town centre with a cinema complex, cafes and homes.

Shropshire Council is due to consider four rival applications for the development on 18 March.

The protest coalition included Oswestry 21, Oswestry and District Civic Society, Oswestry Chamber of Trade and the Campaign to Protect Rural England- who are supporting the Keep Our Town Special campaign urging councillors to refuse the store plans.
