Telford man's £465 fine for littering with a drink can

A drinks can dropped in bushes by a Telford man has cost him a fine totalling £465.

Anthony Lord, 46, of Eyton Road, was spotted throwing the can into bushes by a Community Support Officer on 9 September 2009.

He refused to pay a £75 fixed penalty notice, and ignored a further three letters from Telford & Wrekin Council.

Telford Magistrates' Court imposed a fine of £150, costs of £300 and ordered him to pay a £15 victim surcharge.

The Council spends about £2.3m a year clearing litter from the borough.
