Steam train on track after revamp

The Beyer Peacock Steam locomotive No 1827 will operate at the railway for a month

The first steam train for more than 40 years has begun operating on a section of track which was restored by volunteers in Shropshire.

The Beyer Peacock Steam locomotive No 1827 will operate on a section of the Tanat Valley Light Railway near Oswestry for five weekends.

The railway group said it believed it was the first time a passenger steam train had run on the track at Nantmawr.

The line is the last remaining piece of the old Potts railway.

Volunteers have built a temporary engine shed to protect the locomotive.

Other work has included converting a discarded van body into a visitors' centre.
