Tractor rolls over man at event

A man had to be airlifted to hospital after a tractor rolled over him at an agricultural show in Shropshire.

The exhibitor, who is believed to be in his 60s, was treated for suspected chest, pelvis and shoulder injuries at the Newport Show on Saturday.

He was then taken from Chetwynd Deer Park, where the event was held, to Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham.

The show said he should make a full recovery and sent its "best wishes" to the man and his family.

In a statement, show president Robert Watson Jones said the welfare of exhibitors and spectators was its "main priority" when organising the show.

He said: "Health and safety procedures put in place to deal with such incidents worked promptly and effectively.

"Paramedics were immediately at the scene to attend to the injured man and we have since heard that his condition is improving and he should make a full recovery."

An ambulance service spokeswoman said the man had been injured following an incident involving a tractor and it was reported the tractor had rolled over him.
