Inquiries into fatal road crash

A motorist has been killed in a collision in Shropshire.

West Mercia Police said a car and a lorry were involved in the accident on the A41 at Woodcote, near Newport, on Thursday night.

The car driver was pronounced dead at the scene, a police spokesman said. Inquiries into the crash are ongoing and are in their early stages.

The A41 is closed as a result of the crash and is not expected to reopen until midday.

Police said the car was travelling towards Sheriffhales when the collision happened at 23.35 BST.

The lorry driver was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital with a leg injury.

The road surface was damaged and is currently being repaired.

The road is closed at the junction of the A518 and A41 and at the Shifnal junction of the A41. Motorists are being redirected on to the M54.
