Driver goes wrong way on motorway

A driver has been helped by police after reportedly driving the wrong way down a motorway in Shropshire.

Several callers to BBC Radio Shropshire said they were confronted by a car going in the wrong direction along the M54 on Sunday morning.

One man said the elderly driver was in the inside lane and then the hard shoulder after coming on from the A449.

He said: "We managed to swerve and avoid him and we were going at just over 70 mph".

The driver was escorted safely off the motorway by police officers.
