Work continues on rock fall road

Harley Hill
Engineers were called to the area on Friday

Work is continuing to stabilise a rock face after a landslide led to the closure of a busy Shropshire road.

An estimated 80 to 100 tonnes of rock fell from an old quarry on to the A458 at Harley near Much Wenlock on Friday.

Shropshire Council said it hoped to reopen the road either late on Sunday or Monday.

The road, the main Bridgnorth to Shrewsbury route, was closed for five weeks last summer when 16,000 tonnes of unstable rock were removed.

During the closure, the council also widened and resurfaced the road.

Initial indications suggest the incident was not linked to work last year, Shropshire Council said.

Phil Crossland, assistant director of highways at the council, said: "My understanding is it's towards the top, near the sort of disused quarry site where it was where it slipped last time.

"[That's] further up the hill from all the work we did last year."
