'Lowest ever' tax increase agreed

A council in Shropshire has said it has agreed one of its lowest ever council tax increases after making £4m of cuts.

Telford & Wrekin Council said from April tax would go up by 2.5%, which it said would work out as an extra 40p a week for the average household.

The authority said it would make £4m of savings over the next year, including restructuring its management structure.

The number of cabinet members with portfolios will also fall from five to four.
