Subsidy proposed for home-buyers

Telford and Wrekin Council says it is looking into a plan to offer home-buyers financial help in an attempt to kick-start the housing market.

It says it wants to secure government cash to offer subsidies to home-buyers.

Chief executive Steve Wellings said there were plenty of developers wanting to build homes, but it was hard for people to get mortgages to buy them.

He said if funding could be secured, one option would be to offer council subsidies to local home-buyers.
