A police officer who was shot dead when he was called to a domestic incident has been given a posthumous award for his bravery.
Pc Ricky Gray was killed after being called to Castlefields, in Shrewsbury, on 6 May, 2007, where two unarmed officers were being kept hostage.
Gunman Peter Medlicott was later found dead at the house.
Pc Matthew Crisp, who was also called to the incident, was also awarded the Queen's Commendation for Bravery.
Both officers were part of an armed response unit called to reports that a man had been threatening his partner with a rifle.
Provided cover
When they arrived Medlicott turned the gun on the officers.
Pc Gray ran down an alleyway, distracting the gunman and allowing the two unarmed officers to escape.
He then confronted Medlicott but was shot dead.
Pc Crisp had provided cover while his colleagues escaped the scene.
The commendation said Pc Crisp then took charge of the situation and directed other police officers to the scene, secured the area and ensured no further bloodshed took place.
