Conjoined twin surgery successful

Faith Williams underwent further surgery on Wednesday

An operation to improve the circulation of a baby girl who was separated from her conjoined twin appears to have been successful, doctors have said.

Faith Williams underwent surgery at London's Great Ormond Street Hospital on Wednesday.

She remains critical but stable in intensive care.

Her twin sister Hope died after surgery to separate them on 2 December. They were born to Laura and Aled Williams, of Shrewsbury, on 26 November.

Youngest mother

A spokesman for Great Ormond Street Hospital said: "Early indications following the surgery which took place on Wednesday are that her circulation is improving."

The operation was to ensure more blood flows through her body and less through her lungs.

The twins were joined from the breastbone to the top of the navel and had a shared liver but separate hearts.

Hope died because her lungs were too small to support her breathing.

Mrs Williams, 18, is thought to be the youngest UK mother of conjoined twins.
